On Friday, Lainey Wilson gave a testimony before Congress during a session on intellectual property and artificial intelligence.
Wilson talked about her experience as an AI “victim”. The hearing started off with a rendition of “Barbie Girl” lyrics by Johnny Cash set to the melody of “Folsom Prison Blues.”
“There aren’t many things that we can control in life, but making decisions about the use of our own selves, our own unique qualities, that should be one,” Wilson went on to say. “I am excited about a lot of ways that artificial intelligence can be used to help people, but I’m nervous about how it can be used to take personal rights.”

The “Yellowstone” actor underlined that artists ought to have the “choice” to consent to AI systems using their voice to produce original songs. Wilson claims that weight-loss candies have been promoted using her likeness. She emphasized that she would never promote the product because she was an artist with younger fans. Many small children, both boys and girls, are observing me. Additionally, I want to inspire children to love and feel confident in their own skin. She told the committee, “And I would never in a million years ever do anything like that.” Ultimately, though, people tend to say things like, ‘I have to see it to believe it.'” They are, however, perceiving and accepting it.”
Although Wilson’s main focus was on the experiences of musicians and AI-generated content, she also touched on the broader impact of AI on society at large.
“Fans also require protection; it’s not only about the artists. For high school girls who have seen deepfake porn with their faces that has changed their lives, it is essential. AI is affecting everyone, including the elderly who are persuaded to give up their life savings by a verbal clone of their troubled grandchild. That’s why I appreciate your consideration of taking steps to guarantee that these tools are utilized responsibly.”
