In a significant move, Tristan Thompson, the NBA player, has officially taken on the role of legal guardian for his younger brother Amari, following the passing of their mother, Andrea, a year ago. The Los Angeles County Superior Court granted Tristan sole guardianship of 17-year-old Amari on Monday, as revealed in court records obtained by Page Six. 
Last September, the 32-year-old Tristan filed for temporary guardianship, citing the lack of support from Trevor, their father, in raising Amari, who has epilepsy and other medical issues since 2014. The court documents highlight that returning Amari to his parents’ previous country of nationality is not deemed in the minor’s best interest.
Furthermore, the judge ruled that, under California law, a reunion between Amari and Trevor is “not viable due to neglect, abandonment.” This legal decision grants Tristan the authority to manage Amari’s funds, make decisions about his living situation, and travel with him both domestically and internationally.
Tristan, who recently faced a suspension in his sports career, will also be responsible for overseeing Amari’s $103,475 legacy from their late mother, as mentioned in the court records. Currently residing in Tristan’s Hidden Hills, California home, the siblings briefly stayed with Tristan’s ex-girlfriend Khloé Kardashian after storm damage to their property. 
Khloé, known for her support, mentioned in an episode of “Kardashians,” “I’m thankful that I’m strong and brave enough to be a support system for someone else that has no other support system right now.” Even hosting Amari’s birthday celebration last summer, Khloé expressed gratitude for being a positive influence in his life.
Tristan’s assumption of legal guardianship signifies a significant step in ensuring the well-being and stability of his younger brother Amari, especially in the absence of their late mother.
