We have mutually decided to take distinct roads, and we approach our separate travels with utmost respect and gratitude for the priceless time we have spent together. “Mariah’s dedication to her family and her commitment to her craft have inspired us during our shared journey,” Tanaka continued, referring to her 12-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan. Along with that, he requested understanding, privacy, and respect for “this sensitive time” that Tanaka intends to devote to his profession.

When fans noticed Tanaka was missing from Carey’s just concluded Merry Christmas One and All! tour, the 54-year-old star and his partner initially gave rise to split speculations. Then, a source revealed to PEOPLE that Carey was spending the holidays in Aspen alone—Tanaka has usually accompanied her to the ski resort—instead of with Tanaka.
