At the world premiere of *The Fall Guy* at SXSW in Austin on Tuesday, Emily Blunt, 41, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about how she was able to draw from her husband’s skills as a director to play the role in the film.
Regarding her comprehension of her part in David Leitch’s *The Fall Guy*, which Drew Pearce adapted from the popular 1980s television drama of the same name, she tells PEOPLE, “I am married to a director, so I know what it’s like to hold the tempest of the movie in your head and the pressures and being pulled in a million directions.”
Her uniqueness and humanity appealed to me. I found her to be entertaining. I simply adored her,” she continues. “I like that we didn’t take on the role of the serious, earnest director. I was eager to showcase someone who, albeit much beyond her capabilities, is incredibly gifted and remarkable.”
Blunt and 44-year-old Krasinski were wed in 2010. The couple has two daughters: Violet, seven, and Hazel, ten.Blunt tells PEOPLE that she and co-star Ryan Gosling “had the best time,” adding that Gosling was also there for the world premiere on Tuesday.She remarks, “He’s just so easy peasy to be around.” He’s also a fantastic partner. Following her attendance to the 2024 Oscars on Sunday with her parents Joanna and Oliver—who was also commemorating his birthday—Blunt made her world premiere.They shone brightly. She talks about her parents and how much they loved it. “And I believe that while everyone views photos of the red carpet and thinks it all looks so glamorous and spectacular, they are missing the mayhem and the three days that go into getting ready for the red carpet. ”
She continues, “For them, it was wonderful.” They’re entertaining and got to meet a lot of my industry pals. They were out till after midnight. Blunt was honored for her supporting role in the film and went to her first Oscar ceremony as a candidate.
She also co-hosted an homage to stunt performers with 43-year-old Ryan Gosling during the Oscars program. Gosling quipped on stage, “I’m just happy we can finally put this Barbenheimer rivalry behind us.”
Blunt pointed out that, considering Oppenheimer’s wins at the Oscars and other events, there wasn’t much of a rivalry. “I think I’ve figured out why they called it Barbenheimer and didn’t call it Oppenbarbie,” Gosling replied. “You guys are at the tail end of it because you were riding Barbie’s coattails all summer.”
“I appreciate you explaining that to me, Mr. Ken. You don’t see Robert Downey Jr. doing that, so I need to paint my abs on to get nominated,” Blunt jeered.Gosling went on, saying that the stunt community in Hollywood has “been such an important part of our industry since the beginning of cinema.” Blunt referred to as stunt actors
