Lynda Carter, the iconic Wonder Woman star, continues to grapple with the profound grief following the passing of her beloved husband, Robert Altman, in 2021 due to a rare blood cancer. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Carter shares that the pain of losing Altman, a video game executive and lawyer whom she married in 1984, remains a constant presence in her daily life.
“I consider him daily. Oh, Robert will know is a thought that crosses my mind a lot in my daily life. Or I still anticipate him texting to inquire, ‘Did you land safely?’ if I’m on a flight. Was everything under control?”
To honor Altman’s memory, the 72-year-old star has composed a poignant song, “Letters From Earth.” Despite her long-standing career in acting, Carter emphasizes her more than 50 years as a vocalist, beginning her musical journey at the age of 14.
“The soul of the song is about how you miss a person so much, because they’re such a presence in your life that it’s almost impossible to imagine that you won’t physically see them again in this life.”
“While I’ve been busy writing music, seeing my family, and volunteering, I still miss my life partner terribly,” admits Carter, emphasizing the void left by Altman’s absence. “With him, my life was an adventure. When you’re alone, you have to do everything by yourself. We used to travel and do fun things all the time.
“The memory of them keeps your love alive,” she reflects.
