The yearly St. Patrick’s Day parade is approaching, but this time, there’s a noticeable absence that has left Irish supporters disappointed – Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, will not be in attendance. Recovering from scheduled abdominal surgery, Middleton’s absence from the event alongside her husband, Prince William, has left fans saddened.
Since 2012, Middleton, 42, has been a regular attendee of the parade, with only one exception in 2016. Her honorary title as colonel of the Irish Guards, bestowed upon her by Queen Elizabeth II, showcases her deep connection with the Guards. Middleton’s speeches at previous events have highlighted her support and dedication to the Guards’ service, making her absence this year all the more notable.
Prince William, too, shares a close bond with the Guards, having been appointed an honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards in 2011. However, his role as Prince of Wales led to a subsequent appointment as Colonel of the Welsh Guards in 2022.
With Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace remaining tight-lipped in response to inquiries, Middleton’s well-wishers await news of her progress. Her absence serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of health, uniting supporters in their hopes for her speedy return to public engagements.
While questions persist and speculation swirls, Middleton’s dedication to her role and her unwavering support for the Irish Guards remain steadfast, even in her absence from this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.
