Celebrity (usartical) Interroduction: Star of “The O.C.” Mischa Barton claims that during the first seasons of the adolescent drama, she and co-star Ben McKenzie had a covert relationship.
Barton said, “It wasn’t just on screen either,” adding that she was just 17 years old when she was in a romantic connection with McKenzie, who was 25 at the time.
She said, “I went into that [show] a virgin, a kid,” on the podcast “Call Her Daddy” on Wednesday. It seemed a little like, “Oh my goodness, they know what they’re doing,” when I interacted with seniors. On this show, relationships will occur, and you will have to play that role. I didn’t think I was prepared for that. “I was always a really late bloomer in school, and I hadn’t really dated,” Barton, who is currently 38, continued. Really, I had no idea what I was doing. I so felt that I had to make up lost time.
The actress from “Homecoming” disclosed that her connection with the 45-year-old “Gotham” veteran was her “first,” stating that she was clueless about what she was doing.
“I believe that also got things off to a bad start because, you know, people kind of hook up on these shows and stuff, and things happen, but we threw ourselves into it all pretty quickly,” the woman said. The “Invitation to a Murder” actress revealed that because of McKenzie’s age difference with her, the Fox series’ executives were worried about their relationship.
“It seemed like they were saying, ‘Mischa vanished with Ben, and she’s only seventeen or eighteen,'” she recounted. “My parents were visited by the producers. It felt like an entire experience.
“That’s in the very beginning of the show, before we’re even halfway through a season,” Barton continued. That place was bustling with activity. In just three seasons, a lot happened.
