“Happy holidays and a wonderful new year to all of you. The director shared two new images on Instagram along with the caption, “Oct 2024 #Joker2. The sequel to Jordan Peele’s 2019 blockbuster Joker, which brought in over $1 billion worldwide and spawned 11 Oscar nominations (including Best Actor for Phoenix and Best Original Score for composer Hildur Guðnadóttir), is largely unknown. The sequel is rumored to be a musical that tracks Harley and the Joker as they develop a convoluted romance in Arkham Asylum. The phrase “Folie à Deux” alludes to a “shared psychosis” that many people believe Harley and the Joker will experience.

Variety was informed by Guðnadóttir, who is also the sequel’s composer, that she believes the musical approach is entirely appropriate for the narrative.
“Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck is seen in the first grid photo looking through what looks to be a cell window with the number “E258” above it. In the subsequent image, Gaga appears as a modestly dressed Harley, tenderly staring at Phoenix, who is now sporting his trademark Joker suit and makeup.
“This is an intriguing choice,” Guðnadóttir remarked. “It makes sense, but it also surprised me and the audience much. It’s been a very lovely chat so far, and I can’t wait to see how it develops.”
Similar thoughts were voiced by celebrity Zazie Beetz, who stated in June that “I think people will be surprised.” Regarding it being musical, I don’t think it will live up to their expectations.”
“We all sort of express musically and through dancing in our daily lives,” she continued. I believe it will function really well.
